REFLEX, 2011
LEDs, polished brass rods, custom circuit boards, custom driver software and hardware, behavioural algorithm, motion sensors, computer & interface
Inspired by murmurations of starlings and swarms of winged insects, Reflex translates patterns group behaviour found in nature into moving light.
A site-specific work, Reflex occupied the vitrines of London’s Wellcome Trust from March 2011 to February 2012.
The numerous individual light sources act as a single living organism, mirroring people’s movements of as they walked up and down the busy Euston Road. In this way, Reflex emphasises and analyses the collective behaviour that human beings deploy each day in order to efficiently co-exist.
