The series Life in Our Minds questions the human propensity to read something as sentient, regardless of whether that entity is actually alive. In an evolving process of experimentation, Random International generates different breeds of the organism which each possess their own distinct qualities and traits. In Motherflock, Random International presents a swarm of paper-like objects, small clusters of which each represent an NFT. Belonging to private owners from around the globe, these digital assets – minted by Pace Verso in partnership with Snark Art – were generated by an algorithm after they were purchased.
Roaming together in this installation while simultaneously remaining in their owners’ wallets, Motherflock pioneers a method for communal ownership of public art that bridges the gap between digital and physical realms. Its parts are individually owned but collectively form an interactive sculpture. Motherflock invites you to engage in full body immersion within the flock, opening up possibilities for physical interaction with a digital, seemingly sentient, collective intelligence. Your presence casts a digital shadow, prompting a real-time response and establishing an interplay between two worlds.
